The Courtyard Hound

Interested in how the Dixie Chick's new band, Courtyard Hounds got their name?

It's from a quote in a book called The Courtyard Hound about using your talent, and I love it. I'm looking for the book now, because the quote is so interesting and inspires a sort of melodic imagery for me. It's such an interesting metaphor.....

"Talent must be a fanatical mistress. She's beautiful. When you're with her, people watch you, they notice, but she bangs on your door at odd hours and she disappears for long stretches and has no patience for the rest of your existence: your wife, your children, your friends.

She is the most thrilling evening of your week, but some day she'll leave you for good.

One night, after she's been gone for years, you will see her, on the arm of a younger man and she will pretend not to recognize you."

Use your talent folks!

If you haven't found it yet, it's from a book called City of Thieves. The quote appears in a passage where one of the characters speaks about a (fictional) book called The Courtyard Hound.
